How does one install a winch on a canted pad? More specifically how do you deal with the angled washers and nuts below deck? Do you use wedges on all the bolts? Is there a pre-made wedge for this application? Or ???

Just slice your biscuit on an angle and put the top under the winch and the bottom under the deck.

Find a local cabinet shop in your area. Take something that has your bolt pattern for the winch and measure the angle in degrees or at least know how high you want the high side to be over the lower side. They can make it fairly easly and drill the bolt holes. I did this for a compass mount which is basically the same type of angle. Just using washers doesn't work well and looks really BAD.
Good luck, Ray

Since the pad is already canted slicing would not work well and be very difficult considering it is 7+ inches across but thanks for the idea. I was looking for a set of wedges - one for each bolt to counteract the angle under the deck.

The idea of having a reverse pad made up by a woodworker is an interesting one. I could buy a second set of canted pads and use the 2nd one under the deck but the price is prohibitive. Still looking.

I think the idea re: wedges for each bolt is probably the best for DIY or a solid (relatively thin) block of wood sliced at the appropriate angle. Depending on how steep the angle is, some small sheets of ply epoxied together in an approximated steps then belt-sanded smooth would work. Just be sure to soak the piece(s) in thinned epoxy before you install it.

I would buy a short piece of 2X6 recycled composite decking material and cut an 8" end off of it. Cut the block in half end wise at the angle of of the canted pad. Results in two angled square washers and no additional preparation other than drilling for the bolts.
