I just recently bought c22 #7117 its been sitting for 2 years needed some cleaning in and out but other than that cleaned up real nice sails were kept in bags motor stored in garage, while cleaning the inside cabin discovered a huge dorment bees nest in the veeberth storage compartment with a lot of dead bees i scrubed every inch of the boat in and out. this is my 1st pocket crusier ive been sailing a 15 ft day sailor sweet little boat i traded that boat and 5000 canadian for my c22 is that a good deal? also how do they sail are they quick? is it hard on the boat to be sitting on a trailor for 2 years is there anything i should look out for? im putting the boat in the water this week cant wait to pull up the sails!

C22

You ask if you got a good deal. Does it matter at this point whether we think you got a good deal? The deal's done & if you're happy, that's all that matters. As far as the wasps nest goes, if you use your boat a lot, the wasps won't have access to the boat and/or you can take care of the problem before they take hold. Mud daubers/wasps leave a pheromone or something that attracts them year after year so hopefully your scrubbing has taken care of that. Plus activity will deter them too. There are others here who are better equipped to give advice pertaining directly to the C22 but I'd think you'd want to make sure the swing keel mechanisms are all in good working order (if that's the model you have) and that all rigging is solid. Have a blast! LaDonna

You'll love it (if)

Regarding your question about the C22 and "is it quick?" I've had one for over 10 years and we love it. It is not fast in terms of ratings or in terms of top hull speed. If you are looking to race J-boats or something like that (without handicaps) you may be disappointed. That said, you should know that the C22 is a lot tougher, comfortable and steadier in the water than a lot of the "faster" boats. I have had my C22 out in conditions that sent the rest of the boats to shore for safety. The C22 easily survived a sail that started in winds of 30 mph which then increased to over 55 mph gusts. The important thing is to go over your boat from stem to stern to make sure everything is sound and then make sure you have a full range of sails for your area and the conditions you might encounter. I was able to put up a storm jib and we have a triple reef in the main. (0ut here on the high plains we get rapid changes in weather and occasionally very high winds) You can sail the C22 singlehanded or take a lot of people out for a "party sail" and she won't mind. As the old song said: "I's built for comfort, I aint built for speed".
