Vaseline

I've read on this site that vaseline works. Try searching the archives for the word vaseline to see if you can find past articles about it.

Vaseline works Great!

Ed, I bought a Hummingbird several months ago and after reading alot of postings about how best to mount the transducer,I opted for a "temporary" mount using Vaseline, just in front of the keel, in my '86 Cat 22. I thought this would give me time to decide just where and how I wanted to mount it permanently. Works great and as long as it continues to work, I probably won't change anything. Only drawback... I couldn't find the plain Vaseline at the time, so, on hot days, the foreward area of the boat smells kinda like baby powder.

The Wax worked for me.

Ed: The wax worked for me. What I did was just put about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick wax onto the puck. Then pressed it onto the hull just forward of the head area, and removed the excess that oozed out with my finger, making a fillet. We later put a "C" shapped styrofoam block around it to protect if from being bumped. My depth sounder is a Hummingbird one, and they had the option of several transducers, and one of them was for mounting inside the hull. When I was shopping for the depth sounder, one of the salesmen at West Marine told me to get one that was made for having the transducer inside the hull. He said that it takes more power for the depth sounder to be able to work through the hull. Are you trying the same location that Al, Rod, and I have mentioned? If so, then maybe yours doesn't have enough power, or you need to get the transducer that is intended for mounting inside the hull. Aldo
