Can't Find 90* Holding Tank Vent Fitting

I've seen plenty of 90* pipe to hose barb fittings in the size I want, but none come with a flanged nut to hold the fitting in place on the tank wall. I've tried to find the nuts online as a separate item, but no luck there either.

Is this really that hard, or am I missing something obvious here?

Aha!!

I wasn't thinking in terms of a mushroom head, because when you search for "marine holding tank fittings" those don't come up.

Thanks, Bill

Looks like you need access to the inside of the tank wall to install flange fittings like the one Bill linked to. Is that correct? If so, you'd probably need an inspection port to be able to get to the backside of the tank vent fitting.

Are there any solutions that don't require access to the inside of the tank wall? Perhaps something like this (uses a gasket and screws with nuts), except a more appropriate size for a tank vent fitting (~5/8").

Spinwelding seems to be the way they do it in the factory. But I'm not too keen on buying a special tool for a project I will probably only do once. Though I suppose I could always buy a spinweld fitting, but just epoxy (or 5200) the heck out of it instead.

If you're just trying to install it in a threaded fitting already installed in the tank, there's no need for a nut on any thread-barb tank fitting...they're self-sealing. Just wrap the threads in teflon tape and screw them in...being careful not to OVERtighten. That can crack the female "collar" in the tank. Just hand tight, plus enough to aim any elbow in the direction it needs to go. However, unless your vent line can be relatively horizontal, I wouldn't use a 90 on the tank...use a straight fitting and let the vent line arch toward the thru-hull.

If you're trying to relocate the vent fitting on the tank, you don't need access to the inside of the tank to do that, thanks to a li'l doodad called the Uniseal UNISEAL
Uniseal Instructions

Drill a clean hole with a hole saw...insert the Uniseal (it helps to read the diirections...then use any PVC straight or 90 from the plumbing department of any hardware store for your hose fitting. It should NOT be threaded...smooth on both ends. The Uniseal does NOT leak!

It would prob'ly be a good idea to TALK to the folks at Aussie Globe (the Uniseal mfr) to make sure you get the right size Uniseal to fit a PVC fitting that has an OD (outer diameter) that fits the hose size (hose sizes are always stated as the ID--inner diameter) that you want. And also make sure the PVC has the right size OD...'cuz wall PVC plumbing parts can vary in wall thickness.

If you still have questions, give me a shout, and I'll help you get it sorted out.

If your H27 holding tank is like mine, there is an access plate on top. I just finished installing a new pumpout fitting near the top of the tank to replace the built-in discharge pipe located on the bottom of the tank. I also had trouble finding a source for a fitting with a screw on flange and pvc type female adapters on both sides. This company: https://flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?product=Bulkhead-Fittings-Economy had the fitting that I needed as well as a huge selection of stuff that the box stores don't carry. You can order the fitting with either slip-on (glued) or screw on adapter.

You DID put a pickup tube on it that reaches to the bottom of the tank??? 'Cuz if you didn't, you won't be able to pump anything out of it except contents above the top of that fitting.

I do have my senior moments, but I did remember to attach a pickup tube. I used a 90 degree 1-1/2" pvc drain fitting that had a smooth radius to come down from the flange bushing. Then 1-1/2" pvc pipe down to about 3/4" off the bottom of the tank. Thanks for watching our backs, Peggy
