Hello, I'm in a yacht share program with a beautiful 2001 Oceanis 331. Problem is, for the life of me I can't back up in a straight line! This is the 7th boat I've chartered in my 3 years of sailing and I've never had a problem close to the extremely uncontrollable nature of this boat in reverse. I've tried every degree of rudder angle, constant and variable throttle, but I just can't counter the prop-walk to port. Any suggestions? I'll admit that I'm an idiot if I have to, but I'd like to know if others have had similar problems.

thanks for the insight

Thank you Richard; I do know that a boat I've had the most control with in reverse, had a three blade prop so this makes sense. I'll get in the water and take a look at this Beneteau! Thanks again.

Back Up Procedures

Bryan - I have a 361 with a 3 blade Max Prop that still walks significantly to port. My approach is to use enough power to get some way, and then shift into nuetral to get some rudder response. Works for me...
