Candle wax on non-skid

Had some kids (<40 yrs. old) aboard over the weekend and they apparently used candles to illuminate the cockpit area - wax everywhere. What mght I do to remove the wax from the non-skid areas of the cockpit?Ned Strains/v Family Therapy 1995 h336Chicago

Ned:This is REALLY a Hint from Heloise! Let us know if it works or NOT.4. Lift candle wax that dripped onto  the carpet? Once wax has hardened, scrape up what you can with a dull knife. Put paper towels or and old, white cloth over the area; with iron on low-warm (no steam), gently press. As wax is lifted, move towels so a clean part covers the remaining wax; repeat until wax is gone. If colored wax leaves a stain, blot with spot remover or carpet cleaner, following label directions.

Dawn detergent

I've had luck with Dawn dish detergent. Scrape up the excess and then wash with Dawn.

Ice works...

I wouldn't try heat or scraping on the gelcoat. I remove candles that have melted in their holders by putting 'em in the freezer. To remove candle wax on table tops, I put ice in a zip lock and put the bag on the drip. After about 5-10 minutes, I can pop it right off.

What finally worked ...

Thanks to everyone who responded. Getting the actual wax removed was easy - but the oily residue stained the gelcoat and left strange marks on the non-skid. Tried just about everything and ultimately used "Weiman Wax Away - Candle Wax Remover" (appropriately named) by the Herbert Stanley Co. in Gurnee, IL. Still required lots of elbow grease - but it did remove all traces of the candle wax.
