I own a S2 8.0c. This board, approximately 2x16, is under the bow bunk. It has a hole of approximately 1" (where scissors are). What is it for? The only thing I can think is that it was used in the construction of the boat to move the hull by a crane using a chain/strap/rope. The board is built into the boat and is glassed over.

I think the hole is there to allow the free migration of water towards the bilge.
The rest is a mystery, at least to me.:D

Yep, its a lifting eye for removing the hull from the mould during manufacturing. My 9.2 has a couple as well.

Is it necessary to leave it there? Being right in the middle of the "V" locker, it screws up the space. Will it hurt to cut it down close to the hull?

not if you are ever going to separate the liner again.

Dont forget to glass over the new cut surface.
