Custom!

Brad: I think that the unit you are looking at is custom. The standard spread on these are either 9.5 or 11.5 inches. You can either purchase an off the shelf unit or have a shop custom bend one for you. The brackets need to be bent to match the curve of the pedestal post. I had a very similar setup on my H'31. The real beauty of this setup is there are no feet that need to be drilled into the cockpit sole (NO LEAK).

Unsat Pedestal Guard

Brad, Look else where. I have this exact guard on my Edson pedestal. It came with the boat - I am the third owner and the guard lookes like an after market install. To make it right I had to strip the pedestal down so I could put some nuts and bolts on the lower attachment plates. When I got the boat these plates were attached to the pedestal with self tapping screws which easly pulled out because of the strain on the guard caused by the crew using the guard as a support fixture. As I said unless you are willing to strip out the inside of the pedestal so you can get your hand insde to hold the nuts for the bolts that attaches the lower plates - look else where. The Edson pedestal is a difficult item to deal with - if that is what you have. If not - think about it: how do I attach the lower plates ??

I Have the Exact One...

...on my 1988 Legend 37. I have had NO problems with the attachment plate. I even had it removed once for a cable fix. It is an Edson and the rail is custom to Hunters of that vintage. I asked a rep at a boat show and his exact words were..."It's a Hunter, isn't it?" So Edson is aware of the pedestal. That would make ordering parts easy. The rail is 9" on center, too! I know this because I mounted a table and had to put the fasteners on myself in order to make it fit.

What did you decide?

We have a 1992 28' hunter and are looking for a cockpit table as well. What did you decide to do for your table? Any ordering information would be very much appreciated. Coral
