Hi guys. Thanks for letting me join. Someone's offering this little sailboat free in my area. Could you help identify the type? Thanks.

SORRY
Looks about 13ft long, to have a lapstrake hull, Center board, round ports. There were a few of that mold. The forward looking cabin window is unique. I could not find a model that matched those features. What does the stern look like. Is there a number imprinted on the stern near one of the upper corners?

What state is it in? Maybe you can search by that registration #.

Have you looked for a Hull Identification Number (HIN). Maybe molded into the stern hull or flange somewhere?

What separates this vessel from dumpster fodder is the rig. If it has a mast, boom, and standing rigging that fits together it could be fun. Once you have to hunt down those parts you're into flesh, sorta speak. My suggestion is to put the boat together before accepting it. Otherwise, you are a vehicle to the dump.

99% of the time, a "free" boat is just a way for the owner to get out of the cost of scrapping the boat. Nearly as often, the new owner dumps a bunch of time, and money into it, but can't complete the project for some reason, and the boat is offered for "free" once again.
It is important to understand that boat building is about as far away from house carpentry as the space shuttle is from the Wright brothers' plane. Houses generally don't twist and flex like a sailboat can, so a nail is often a sufficient fastener, for house building. What I'm trying to say is that whatever work done by the OP may need to be removed and begun again, using proper boat building techniques.
If I were you, I'd be looking for a complete, ready to sail boat, and sail during the years it could take to make a free boat seaworthy.

Check the hull and see if it is in good condition. If it is, it might make a good little cabin cruiser power boat with a small outboard engine. I think it would be too costly to restore it to a sailing condition. You would need a new trailer.

Trying to figure out the responses on this posting as I seem to be more dense than most of you knowledgeable sailors. Here's a boat sitting on flatbed trailer on a trailer without its wheels being chalked. Claims to be a sailboat and no evidence of a mast or sailboat keel but does have some identification numbers that could probably be checked against a nearby database where it was found. Of course I could be very dense in my old age since I can't see evidence that the trailer needs to be replaced seeing how it's sitting next to a freshwater lake.
