I have a 1973 C-27. I need to rebuild the head but can't find any identifying marks on it. Does anyone have one like it? Thanks, Mike

It's old, obselete, and you won't find parts, and if you could they would cost as much as a new head. Buy a new one--Right, Peggie?

It appears to be a VERY old Raritan Compact
Out of production for at least 10 years, replaced by the Compact II. From the looks of it, I'd guess it's original to the boat. I agree with wiseguy...don't waste your money on rebuild kit for a toilet that old, 'cuz the pump has to be so worn that a rebuild kit isn't likely to do much for it. Replace it (and all the hoses too...by now they have to be stinking or dried out and brittle). The current Raritan Compact II will cost you a little more than the cheapest piece of junk, but will be close to a "plug and play" replacement and a LOT higher quality, more durable toilet. The bowl looks to be in decent shape (can't see the condition of the seat and lid. So you only replace the pump/base assembly and recycle the bowl. That'll cost quite a bit less than the complete toilet, and save a LOT in shipping charges to HI, 'cuz bowls are heavy. This retailer http://www.boatfix.com/bypartnofrogpp.asp?partno=CPIIPUMP has the pump assembly (can't tell if it includes the base too...call and ask 'em) for $118.

At least one thing you need to change when you
install the new toilet: put a vented loop in the head intake. It needs to go between the pump and the bowl, to replace the short piece of hose that connects 'em as shown in your photo. What about a holding tank...does the boat have one? If not, you're gonna need one, 'cuz it's been illegal to flush a toilet directly overboard in all US waters--including coastal HI--for 27 years. That is an OLD Raritan "Compact" marine toilet; it was likely the original head on the boat when it was built, back in 1972 or 1973. It went out of production somewhere around 1993, and none of the major parts remain available for it. Seal kits are still offered for it, but none of the parts to rebuilt the shutoff valve in the front of the pump are included in the kits. Considering the looks of the toilet, a seal and gasket kit won't likely be enough to rejuvenate it. If it were I, I wouldn't even think about trying to repair or rebuild it - replace it!
