Hey everyone, I am brand new to this realm, It has been a dream for me to sail and I finally came across the opportunity to take it up. I just purchased an O'day that I am going to pick up this weekend to restore. However the owner who has no knowledge about boats said with his limited research he believes it to be a 1974 O'day 22. I did some google searching though and I've come to the conclusion that it is an O'day 20... quite personally for the price I'm getting it for I wouldn't care if it was a rowboat haha. But anyway on to my question, I will post pictures that were sent to me and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with identifying it just because i'd like to know. There is no paper work on this boat but I will do a vin match when I actually pick it up I just want an insight so I can do the proper restoration research for the next few days. Thanks to anyone that can help out or even give some feedback how they like the boat and what not. thanks again! I'm excited to take my first step into the world of sailing.

Nope, she is as you surmise... actually an O'DAY 20. The early (1973-75) 20 was more or less a smaller version of the 22 with virtually the same interior and sail rig as the same vintage 22. The 20 had a Keel/Centerboard design (shallow keel with a centerboard the retracted into the keel ) with a draft of 1'3", the 22 of that time had a deeper, fixed keel (draft was still only 1'11" for the 22). The 20 had one window (port) per side, the 22 had 2.

thank you everyone who answered! and thank you sunbird for the information The difference with the ports was what caught my eye so I'm glad that my gut feeling was right haha. I can't wait to pick her up on Saturday and start restoring her. Keep a look out for pictures I'll probably document the whole process on the forum so I'm sure you'll be seeing plenty of questions from me =) haha.
