How well does 340 hold up against more decicated Cruiser/Racers like the Swans, and the Bavaria's. I understand it has good performance but I have nothing to judge it by. Thanks
I raced a c&c 35(which had stock sails) this past weekend. The course was not official, but was mostly to windward and about 10 miles on the rhumbline. The c&c was way ahead on all points of sail. No Comparison! But the 340 is easier to sail and live aboard. I wouldn't say the 340 is a "club racer" but is not a slug either. If you race it, try for the highest phrf rating possible.I like the boat in most other respects. Capt. Mike
Agree with the previous email, but I've beaten a 40 C&C in light winds consisting of a zigzag downwind course of about 16 mile course (20 or more sailed). Also can routinely knock off the 34 Catalina which measures close to 35 feet. But this is with full battens, cruising spinnaker, and feathering prop, as well as the right winds <grin>.
The 340 does seem to lack some racing performance. Lately, learning that rig tuning and techniques specific to the unique sail plan are starting to close the gap. Wondering about modifying the 110 jib to a 110+ with more shape and roach. What phrf rating is anyone using?
