I'm getting my boat hauled and the guy asked me where he should put the back strap to lift the boat out. He wanted to know if he should put it behind the rudder or behind the keel. You know I worked on the boat last winter and then had it hauled and put in and I just can't remember now how much space there is behind the keel before the prop shaft or how much flat area there is behind the rudder. Does anyone have a photo or can anyone can tell me? It's a 1981 Hunter 27

Behind the keel.

More specifically the lift marks should be at the bridgedeck, the forward end of the cockpit. This should be just forward of the shaft exit I think. The strong part of the aft cabin bulkhead and bridgedeck prevent any compression. If like my Cherubini(H37C) there were never any marks. Still four weeks before she goes in the straps.

Watch that knot meter paddle

On my '81 H30, my knot meter paddle is directly under the head port hole. The last time I pulled mine, I set the straps right there thinking the paddle was under the V-berth port. It dawned on me just as we started lifting. Glad I caught it in time. Right behind the keel is excellent as far as I know Have fun!!!
