can not get my omc out of gear

I have an 78 oday 25 was comming in yester day and the boat was stuck in forward would not go to netural never had this problem before need some info quick HELP HELP

OMC Stuck!

When I launched my O28 last year, the shift knob stuck in gear and the shift lever wouldn't return to neutral. Had to shut down and use a penetrant to loosen up the assembly-I assume you have usual single lever assembly-then grease the working parts. I haven't had any trouble since.
