I need to find a new place to put my house battery bank, 2 6V golf batteries and will like to keep it at centerline to prevent the boat to have more weight at one side. My boat is a 32, the batteries are now on a starboard compartment and have my boat shifting to starboard because of the weight. I have some space at the engine room aft from the shaft were I can place both batteries but I am concern because of the heat while engine running. Can the heat do some damage to my batteries? Thanks;

Heat effect on batteries

You can find lots of info on the subject on the Ample primer - suffice it to say you might be better off finding a different location because of the heat problem

Batteries

I have the same situation with my boat. There is a place for them behing the engine, and I do have my start battery there. But access is so difficult that I have doubts about being able to check the water lever, lead acid batteries, with them located back there. The start battery is directly over an acess panel, and is not to much of a problem, but if I put the house bank back there, will be nearly impossible to get at it, so am going to leave it alone for the time being. So far engine heat has not been a problem with the start battery.

JRPLA...

I have a 32 ODay center cockpit and the engine room is right under the cockpit and when I bought the boat it had two batterys on the starboard side of the engine causing a list when the water take got low and when I replaced them with bigger battery's that first year, I ended up with four battery's so I put the two extra batterys on the port side of the engine making the boat balanced and there all in the engine room and I never have had any problems with them, I do run a blower when the engine is running to get some of the heat out if I'm going to stay on the boat when I get to my destination cause on a hot summer day ya just don't need any extra heat.
