HI, all. I have an '88 H285. It has those light blue fabric walls in the V-berth, Main and Aft-cabins. They are looking a little shabby (some mold, some stains, etc.) from 17 years of use. Rather than pull it all out (a pain since it looks like the shelves, etc. were installed AFTER the carpeting/fabric) I've heard of some people PAINTING the carpet. Has anyone done this? IF so, did it work OK? What kind of paint did you use? or...maybe I've just been inhaling diesel fumes too long! (As a side note, I'm also going to try some spray-foam carpet cleaner on them to see if this helps...)

Paint

Hey, On my hunter 25 from 1978 I have old fabric. I'm considering replacing it with nice wood, I will let you know how that will work out. But if you will go to any arts and crafts store you can get fobric paint. Or you can try this : http://www.fabricspraypaint.com/ Good Luck Marcin

I wouldn't...

I think you'd just be asking for trouble. The paint would harden and make the walls rough. Try spraying bleach on the carpeting with a spray bottle. Worked for me. What have you got to lose, they already look like crap, right?

Resolve

I had excellent luck with Resolve Carpet Spot & Stain Remover. Comes in a spray bottle and I used less than a bottle getting rid of water stains, etc. on my Hunter 23's liner. No damage to the color of the carpet either. Bleach is certainly going to damage the color.

Bleach works

and doesn't discolor the fabric. I guess the syntetic fibers won't absorb the bleach but the mold and mildew ON the fibers' surfaces perish post haste.

carpet improvement

I have a 1988 Hunter 28.5 and the previous owner covered the carpet with a white vinyl material. He just cut each section with approximate measurements, then used a straight razor or box knife to trim more exactly. It's been 2 years and is still holding up pretty well. I've had to spot glue it with 3M spray adhesive, but it brightens up the interior and cleans easily, so it might be a solution for you to consider.
