I have had no luck in having anyone fix my 1 cylinder 1976 Yanmar. The first technician charged me $250.00 for telling me he can't get it started but he could overhaul it for $2000.00 that is if I can provide the crane to take it out of my boat! You mean to tell me these techs. don't have the proper equipment to take out a little 1 cylinder engine!! In this part of New England we call them "Ham and Eggers". I knew the engine needed work but god, it's as if I need to get NASA in for a briefing first!!

Yanmar - YSM?
I think I have the same engine as yours, mine is a '78 YSM12 Yanmar. Mine was seized and I needed to remove it from the boat to get it rebuilt as a winter project. My yard was closed for the winter (no crane) so I had to rig a block-n-tackle off my boom and hoist it out that way. Be careful and make sure the boat is balanced correctly. Also, support the boom with a haylard from the mast. $2k sounds like a good rebuild price - what does that include? Mine cost around $3k and included a brand new head, injector, gaskets and bearings - she runs like a champ now. You could also try OldPort Marine - I think they are located around Newport - is that near you?

I have the same engine. Complete rebuild was about $2000.00, new head,injector,hoses etc. Not to much to it other than parts. The old Yanmar block is heavy and thick. Why did the individual feel it had to be pulled? Mine was all done in water, 1977 Hunter 27. Good luck, Peter

located in Scituate Ma... He has worked on my boat at my house in Pembroke. He can pull that engine out in a hour or so if needed to rebuild. His number is 781-544-0333.. I would call him right away as he will be very busy soon.....He is a great guy too..
