Can anyone help me with this control panel guage Issue

I have a 2005 Beneteau 393 and cannot read what this is. I was out today and the red light came on and I’m not sure what it is.
The 1st pic is the gauge. In question it is the 2nd gauge on the left on the 2nd pic.

The gauge you show is the water temp gauge as the scale is not linear. Oil gauges are linear. Here's mine shown below :

If you've got a red light as well, you've got your work cut out for you.

You may be able to use a plastic cleaner to polish the lense so that you can read the gauge.
Exposure to UV light and marine air has fogged the lense.

I use the stuff from an auto shop. It is used to polish car headlights. Lasts for a season.

If you've got a red light as well, you've got your work cut out for you.

Can you elaborate on your response. What could be the issue for you to say “you got your work cut out for you”?

Maybe it does need a little more elaboration than what I've supplied so far.

You showed a picture of a gauge which we identified as your engine's temperature gauge.

When you mentioned that :

the red light came on and I’m not sure what it is.

....................... I assumed that there was a connection between the gauge and the red light visual alarm i.e. you were getting a high temperature engine alarm which is a most unwelcome event which has to be solved and corrected ASAP.

For openers, make the gauge a little easier to read by wiping the face with soapy water. Next, run your engine while tied to the dock and watch what the temp. goes up to. If it stays around 170 - 180 you need to apply more load. Take the boat out and load up the engine and watch for overheating.

If you're comfortable trouble-shooting an overheating engine, start digging and let us know what you find. If not, maybe some more elaboration before you get into trouble.

I don't think that is the temp gauge. I think the temp gauge is the far right one. Maybe it is oil pressure with two different units?

Give us a better picture, or clear up the lens, and tell us what light is coming on and where - a light on the gauge, or the panel?

OP will need to get some Better photos for us to help him, but I do think it is an oil pressure gauge.

Far right gauge scale is 3-digits, so I am thinking water/engine temp.
Next one is engine hours
Next one looks like it has same numbers on both side of the scale..so I think some sort of electrical gauge (volt meter)
Far left looks like fuel gauge…

So that leaves oil pressure. At least that is my guess.

Yes you are right it is the oil pressure. See a thread below with more details. Thoughts.

Low oil pressure is an indicator of a lack of oil, or perhaps a clogged oil pick-up. Check for volume with the dip stick. Too much oil can be as harmful as not enough.

Yep I check the oil level and it was perfect. Still scratching my head.

If the oil level is perfect and the gauge is saying no, then perhaps the gauge is bad?
Replacing the gauge is easier than examining the oil lines. Be sure to get one that works with your oil pressure sender.

Sometimes gauges will stay in position when the ignition switch is turned off until the engine is restarted when the gauges will start reading from their zero positions again.

Very good point.
I noticed the red light is on in the picture so assumed his ignition was on and see the needle is at 3. So again assumed that was what he was talking about as the base line reading before the engine was started.
I know, too many assumptions.

Seeing as how you can see the needle of this gauge with the silver bezel :

....................... and the thought is that it's the oil pressure gauge, please do us a favour and fire up the engine when cold from sitting overnight and let us know where the needle sits within a few seconds of the engine starting. It should immediately jump to the operating oil pressure. A temperature gauge, on the other hand, will take 5 - 10 minutes to get to operating temperature. Please also check that gauge #5 does take 5 - 10 minutes to come up to operating level. This eliminates all assumptions.

Seeing as how your #2 gauge has a nice shiny surface on the lens and yet is still cloudy, it shows the acrylic is fried through and through and cannot be repaired. VDO gauges are tops in reliabililty and not expensive as replacement gauges.

The engine was running at the time. I do think it is a bad sensor. It is not original, someone before us must have replaced it. My next step is to check the connections and do a meter read on it.
