Bought a 1984 Anniversary Edition O Day 222 last summer. After a lot of TLC, got her looking pretty good. Finally got it in the water & pretty sure we've gotten the standing rigging right. Running rigging another story, kinda lost. Too many questions to ask. Would love to see one properly rigged. Not even sure which mast & boom brand(?) is on it. Has a furled jib, but seems like pieces are missing. Main sheet hook up seems to be missing parts as well. Sure has been fun learning, but really want to get her in the wind. Cannot make out any pictures with enough detail to figure it out. Anyone willing to help with pictures or knowledge would be great.

Congrats on the purchase of the O'Day 222. Does your mast have external halyards? My 86 has internal halyards and the boom has internal control lines for the topping lift, outhaul, and the jiffy reefing. You're probably going to need to do some mods on this boat. I'm not sure if you are going to gain any knowledge from viewing my picture albums but here is the link to it.

Odie, if the mast has external halyards, with a mast step that pins together at the front and back ends, then you have a Dwyer mast and boom.
I have a 192 which is similar to the 222, so I can get you pics of Dwyer mast stuff if you need.

Many thanks for your response. Really enjoyed looking over your pictures. I do have external halyards, so the pictures mostly amazed me, as I obviously have enough trouble just keeping things stock and sailing. I spoke with Rudy and he set me straight quite easily. Went up this last weekend and it appears as though we are ready to sail. The wind was up so we just "sailed in the slip", raised the main & figured out the main sheet, got the jib up, furled and unfurled. Previous boat was an Alcort Sunbird, so learning alot, and never had a motor before. That is going to be a big adjustment. Again, thanks for your response and encouragement.

My wife and I just became O'Day owners two weeks ago. We bought a 1984 222 in very good condition. Didn't take a lot of clean up and the hull polished up nicely. Only surprise was when we went to step the mast. I think we have a "rogue" configurations. The tabernacle has only one hole into which a bolt and sleeve go through the tabernacle and the mast, then tightened down. Secondly, unlike all the others I've seen, the leading edge at the foot of the mast has a radius which allows it to "clear" as you raise the mast. The mast is raised by laying it over the bow pulpit, attaching the topping lift to the boom, and the boom to the mast using it like a gin pole and using the main sheet to winch it up. BUT, because it's raised from the bow end, you cannot attach the shrouds and that felt very unstable. Short of it is that we had to recruit 4 other sailors that happened by to steady the mast as we winched it up, then once up we attached the shrouds as quickly as possible.
So, the question is, does anyone else have this mast setup? I'm thinking that one of the previous owners changed out the mast, or that O'Day made a change after mine was made.
Any thoughts? I am also going to call Rudy at D&R to see what he knows.

How many pins go through the bottom of your mast where it attaches to the tabernacle? Do you have a rounded edge at the bottom front of your mast?

Thank you. Yes, mine is different. Only one attachment point, one bolt that goes through the center of the foot of the mast. And, the tabernacle is different. No need for you to take photos...I know how yours is set and that allows raising the mast from the stern. We just got a one of a kind mast.
