I just bought a boat that has an ST40 Wind Instrument. The apparent wind indicator needs to be calibrated. I have the Quick Reference Card, and I read the chapter in the manual on calibration. I'm fine with all the directions until I get to the last step - 'Align Transducer'. What does this step mean? Thanks in advance for the help!

Well, I'm guessing here but

I would assume the transducer needs to be aligned with the centerline of the boat. Tom s/v GAIA

You need to align the transducer that it is parallel to the water so that the wind catches the fins or cups equally for continous and smooth rotation.Use a small line level.

electronic not physicl adjustment?

The Align Transducer step seems to be more of an electronic one than a physical one. The little card that shows the steps shows you pushing the positive or negative buttons (up or down) to adjust it. Still not sure what it means . . .

Try the web site

I just went to the Ray Marine web site and found the calibration procedure on page 24. Go to the link below. It looks like you push the down arrow and "period" button and hold for 2 seconds to enter the cal mode. Press the "period" button repeatedly until the word ADJ is displayed. Then press the up or down arrow to change the displayed wind direction to what is the correct direction. To save, press and hold the down arrow and "period" button for 2 seconds. There are many other adjustments you can make if you go to the manual web site I provided below.

Align Transducer

On other Autohelm units (ST-60) - to align the transducer, in calibation mode, you motor directly into the wind and use the display buttons so that the wind indicator points to the bow of the boat. I'll bet it's the same with the ST-40. You can always contact RayMarine directly and ask them.
