Our 2001 420 has an ST50 but the display and wind indicator and speed instrument were just replaced at boatyard but the speed is about 25% too high, and the wind direction 180 degrees off. In reading about how to calibrate I found two sets of instructions---one says to enter dealer mode by holding the disp and true wind buttons down for 12 seconds until it flashes to dealer mode. That doesn't work.
The second from the manual says to go out and do two circles with the boat, then turn on, and then it will automatically calibrate? Anyone done that?

I've done it - the 360's that is. If I remember the unit has to be in the calibrate mode before doing the turns. I seem to recall I had mixed results. And, no, the menus in vitro were different than the manual indicates.

I just ran my boat in a few slow circles to swing the compass...I did not put mine in calibration mode.

Tried all above with no change! Still off by 180 degrees.

Won't it be easier to send someone up the mast to turn the arrow round and round?

I’m assuming you just changed the display, and not the masthead unit?
I sorta suspect that there is an incompatibility issue with the old st50 masthead, and the ST60+ display.
180 out is significant, and isn’t in the realm of normal cal error.

Just checked something
Make sure you haven’t reversed the green & blue wires at the back of the instrument.
I believe this will induce a 180 degree phase error.
