So Calcium Chloride is the best thing going for dehumidifying, but in WI it gets cold. Hence, before my calcium chloride can work, it freezes into a solid block of ice. Any suggestions for a better solution...maybe I should mix sodium chloride (salt) with the calcium chloride...??? I know it will thaw out and begin to work when the temp rises, but likely not much ahead of the condensation that will occur much faster than thawing ice blocks...

actually...

The humidity is a lot lower in the dry winter months. Summer is when the humidity and temperature is up where mold and mildew can grow. I've never had a problem in the winter.

True

You're right. Humidity is far worse in summer. But the boat is in use then, opened up and ventalated frequently. The fact that the Calcim Chloride turns into a block of ice is proof that there is significant moisture in the boat while closed up in storage all winter. I'm trying to mitigate this.

Spring is when you need it

As the author of one of the original articles here, I can tell you that during the winter there will be almost no acculmulation of water from the CaCl flakes. However, in the spring when things begin to warm up (before you are using your boat) the buckets will fill with condensate. I have verified this by visits to my boat in the winter and into the spring. Rich
