It says spring but it's still damn cold in Buffalo. Looks like another late start to the season. Marinas open May 15, unfortunately they can't put docks in until all the ice is off Lake Erie. We have an ice boom installed across the mouth of the Niagara river that holds back ice flow to protect the water intakes. The boom is scheduled to come out April 1 if conditions allow. Conditions are 250 square miles or less of ice on the lake. As of yesterday there was still 1100 square miles. The issue is once the boom is removed t it takes some time for the remaining ice pack to break apart and head down river. If the wind shifts to the north west all remaining ice gets bushed up the Buffalo river and wrecks anything in it's path.

With that much ice on the lake it is to damn cold on the waterfront to even work on my Capri. Come on sunshine

It was in the high-70s/low-80s in Nor Cal last weekend. If it's any consolation for those of you still frozen in back east, looks like boating season on California lakes will end by the 4th of July if we are lucky. By the looks of it, your season may just be getting started about then!!!
