I am back in the water ( so to speak ) after a 8 year absence. I have options on two sailboats. In the end the cost is similar. A very rough ( cosmetics ) Cal 27' and a showroom ready Cat 27. Similar years but a world of difference. A big sail for me is two or three days along the Pacific Coast. My experience is Cal-T-4, Devries 30' John Alden motor sailor and Balboa 26' I have about a thousand miles +/- Ocean and Great Lakes combined. Basic question is which is the better buy? They both have good keel bolts and no evidence of the Cat or Cal smile. thanks,

Tough Call

Those Cat 27's are fast and certainly enjoy great support from factory and owners' groups. Having said that, the Cal 27 was fast in it's day and was a rugged piece of work. Beats me, good luck in your decision. Sounds like if you follow your gut, you won't go wrong. RD

cal vs cat

i guess you mean catalina, no? if you do, my buying my boat from a company still in business has been a great deal, especially since i have found the catalina folk very decent.
