Hi folks, I'm looking at buying a 1968 cal 34. The boat has been cruised extensively and is very well equipped. The only thing I have found wrong with the boat other than cosmetics is rusty fittings in the lav area. These are very substantial fittings that attach to the bulkhead. They look to be 1/8 inch thick with large bolts through them and the bulkhead. I can’t see what’s on the other side because they are under the ice box. I’m guessing they are attached to the keel / ballast. Has anyone changed these before and how much trouble will it be to replace them. Thanks, Tim

sounds like chainplates...

...not sure but the location and description indicates you're talking about the chainplates, which secure the shrouds to the boat. If the bulkheads are plywood, they may have water damage and need replacing.... You should inspect with a moisture meter, so do the right thing and have a surveyor check the boat out....he'll tell you exactly what you're getting.

I think the chain plates are up higher

the fittings I'm looking at are at the bottom of the bulkhead.
