Any Cal 34 owners with suggestions on where and how to mount the bilge pump, or bilge pumps. I was surprized to find how deep the bilge is in my newly acquired Cal34Jim
I have a cal29, and have the same set up, I have a manule pump with a hose to the bottom of the deep bilge, and a automatic in the shallow area, you could also set up the automatic pump on a stainless steel rod to keep it out of the strange muck in the bottom.
I had a big problem figuring this one out. In the end I put a pump in the bottom of the bilge that would fit i think it was a 500GPM at most then I tied a second inline in the engine compartment. finally I wired the two together and attached a float switch, if you want to keep the bilge dry put inline check valves to prevent backflow when the pumps shut off and check them frequently. Good luck this was a bitch. other Idea was to fill the cavernous bilge with dry expansion foam, didnt go there though.
I had to remove my backflow valve. Try putting water in the bilge to make sure the pump will pump. Mine ran fine (working perfect I thought) but didn't pump out. Ooops! Had to remove the valve and use a sponge for the left over. CAL T/2
