I have a 1986 Cal 33 with a Yanmar 3GM 22 hp diesel. The bracket that attaches to the port side of the transmission to hold the shifter cable has rusted and broken. This part is not supplied by Yanmar and appears to have been fabricated for Cal sailboats exclusively. Does anyone know where I could find a replacement part or an original part specification so that I can have one made? There is a similar post in 2000 for an O'Day 322 which is the Cal 33 manufactured by Pearson after they bought the molds. Apparently they used the same bracket. Can anyone help me find one of these brackets?!!

I have the same model year Cal33 but I'd just make a new bracket. You could bring the pieces to a local fabrication shop and I'm sure they could duplicate it for you. There's several of these guys within 10- 15 miles of where I live. Probably the same for you. Good Luck, Chuck

Transmission Shifter Bracket for Cal 33

Thanks for your reply, and it looks like that is where I am headed -- having one made. Actually, that is a large part of my probably, proximity to my boat. We live in Clovis, CA and our boat is 215 miles away in San Leandro. It is no small deal to go to the boat to take an extra picture and I have no internet access on the boat, so I must come back home to do any searches for information after working on the boat for a day or two! I would still love to hear from anyone who might have already had one of these brackets made. Should I have to forge the way, I will send the makers' name and address to the forum once the bracket is successfully installed and working. Thanks, Don Dutton

San Leandro is surrounded

by many metal fabrication places, it's essentially still an industrial area. There's a metal shop on Doolittle just south of the Oakland Airport, and if they don't have the equipment, they sure have the metal and can send you to someone who can make it for you. The name of the store is ALCO and they're known around here for lotsa metal :)

Thanks for the excellent lead. I have been to Golden State Marine with no luck and the diesel shop just down the street from West Marine was closed when I tried to talk to them. I will try your lead and see what happens. Thanks again, Don Dutton, Cal 33
