I have an 87 28-2 shoal draft and am considering replacing or extending to the deep draft (3' 9" vs. 5' 3"). Does anyone know where the molds for the Cals went after the production run stoppped? My only other option is to somehow bolt in an extension to the existing shoal keel but then I would have increased the displacement significantly. The shoal draft is already carrying an additional 300 lbs over the deep draft displacement.
Another option would be to find a 28-2 that went to salvage as the keel bolts and hull joint are the same regardless of draft.
Last option of course would be to give up hopes of top finishes and either crew for someone else or race just for the fun of it...
