I recently replaced a cable that broke. It runs from the chain around around the sprocket at the steering wheel, down through the pedestal, under the cockpit where it is redirected by a pulley, to a fly wheel that connects to the rudder. I replaced only one cable but now the steering is reversed so that when I steer in one direction, the boat goes in the opposite direction. (This made for some excitement at the marina.) I must have "uncrossed" the chain around the sprocket. Before I correct the problem does anybody have any advice of where the chain or cable should cross? Perhaps the cables should cross at the bottom of the pedestal at the holes where they go to feed around the redirecting pulleys, rather than having the chain cross and perhaps rubbing against itself, like I assume was happening before I replaced the cable.Next question. Is there a part for the chain that prevents it from running off the sprocket at the wheel. If I turn the wheel until the rudder stops, the chain will run out of length and run off the sprocket. Either the chain is too short or it needs a 'lock or brake' to prevent oversteering. Any ideas.Steve (yes it's me again)
