Greetings, I have a 1987 H23. I am curently doing typical off-season work and am considering what to do with the interior wood. What have others done? Oil? Varnish? Ultimate Sole? Leave it alone? Thanks! Richard "Invictus"

interior finish

When we first got out h23 many years ago, it was an annual thing to do the oil, then it became needed more often to keep it reallly looking nice, some years ago I gave my wife some cetol and a brush , in a very short time the interior was done and we havent really had to touch it since, so if you enjoy oiling then do the oil thing, if you would rather sail, do the cetol, or something similiar, good luck , Mike

WoodPro

I have had good luck with a West Marine product called WoodPro (similar to Cetol)

Interior finish

Richard, it was funny when I opened this post I have just finished all the wood on the exterior and was asking my wife if I should oil the teak on the inside or just use cetol since that was what I used on the exterior. I think I am going to use cetol or another product that I got with the boat I think is is Z spar or something like that, just a clear gloss finish. I am leaning towards cetol. Will wait and see what others say, I plan on starting the inside the next day or two. Rob Morton

Cetol not a good choice on the interior.

Rob: The main reason for Cetol is for it's durability on the exterior due to the UV properties. Almost anything is better on the interior. Check out the Daly's for interior use. It applies like Cetol but has a much more luxious finish.

I have used Cetol gloss without the coloring agent on the interior of two boats. The finish is durable and easy to clean. Good luck!

Interior, is gloss really right?

Is gloss really the right choice for the interior? I thought most boat manufactures used a matte or satin finish.

I am not suggesting that the cetol I suggested was the optimun finish , some one ask about finishing the interior and I told them what I used and how it held up for me, I guess I should have noted , I used this because I had some remaining from the exterior , that stuff is pricey and I am cheap, so rather than letting it go to waste and buying more that is what I used and it has worked nicely , still looks good, there may be better products out there , hope what ever everyne uses it turns out nicely , take care Mike Bacome

Gloss or satin.

John: Either gloss or satin is suitable for interiors. A lot of this is personal likes/dislikes. Some like the looks of Cetol, oil or other types too. One thing you want to watch out for is having a finish that is slippery when wet. Some finishes are extremely slippery when wet.

Hunter Factory Finish

The Hunter factory finish is Daly's Sea-Fin on the sole and Daly's ProFin on all other teak. Many finishers consider this the best finish available. Order at www.dalyspaints.com It is easy to repair and add in suceeding years. Goes on over a variety of well-founded finishes. I used Cetol on my previous boat. It was applied with a rag to give a rubbed in finish. Use little produce and lots of rubbing. You don't want to lay it on thick.
