Cabin Ventilation

Does anyone have suggestions for increasing ventilation? I'm thinking of adding a couple more fans more in the center of the cabin. What other tricks have you guys found? Also, I'm pretty sure our aft berth is going to be really stifling when the weather gets much warmer. Anyone had any luck there?

Windsock

We deploy ours even when tied up at a marina. Of course, they are most effective when moored or anchored. We sleep forward, but I'm sure you could set one up to feed an after berth. We also have screens for all our hatches, including one I duilt for the companionway that slides down in place of the hatchboards. Then we move around one fan to get the air just where we want it at any given time. We usually don't need the fan when at anchor, though, because the windsock is so effective. David Lady Lillie

Fans

I learned about 12 volt fans years ago when we used to do a lot of racing. The sewer guy would be sweating bullets repacking the chute down in the cabin, and fans helped alot. I use two fans in the main cabin, one in the head, and another in each cabin. They don't draw that much current and really help. I also keep a large box fan (110volt) and use it at the dock constantly during summer. Of course, any time there is wind, or we are at anchor, we also use the windsock. I have all fans hooked to the lighting circuit breakers. While sailing during hot weather, I keep the main cabin fans on and control them with the breaker. Anyone going down below can flip one breaker and both fans are on. When going back topside, they are flipped off. For the main cabin, I use inexpensive oscillating fans. However, they are a little noisy to use in the berth areas. There, I use the more expensive Hella Turbo fans, which are much more quiet. Hope this helps.

Nicro Vent

Also try installing a Nicro solar vent, I have found that it keeps the boat from getting mildew when your not using the boat, it'll also add to air flow anytime your in the boat.

And when its really hot

and you're at the dock...a cheap window unit will fit right in the companion way with room to put in the top panel of the companion way slats. A 110volt 5000 Btu window unit will almost put frost on the windows. Just stuff some towels in the slots on the edges.

Thanks Once Again

Some great suggestions as always! I have the windscoop & some additional 12V fans on order & plan to order the more expensive nicro ventilator when the summer heat really kicks in. As for the AC. I'm resisting. We don't stay in the slip much, & I don't want to get used to it. But then again, when it's August in Arkansas, who knows what we'll do. Thanks again!

Check this out of the aft berth!

Virginia: Check out these. They may be just the thing for the berths that have a port. A little over priced but worth it when you are sweating! http://www.svhotwire.com/pages/products/portfan.html
