Cabin top vs. cockpit main traveler

I am thinking that if I were to move the traveler from the cockpit to the cabin top there would be more room.Has anyone ever done this or is it not advised.ThanksSkipCat 27 "Kid Napper"

Mine is on the cabintop

Skip-- My mainsheet is on the cabin top--it was factory rigged in that position when new. I like it there, because it opens up more space in the cockpit.  It does make it hard for the helmsman to get to it though--you can't reach it from the wheel. I find this to rarely be a problem, though. If I were racing, or singlehanding, I might feel differently, but I almost always have one or more experienced guests with me whe I'm underway, so we split up cockpit tasks.Randy

Cabin top traveller and singlehand

Skip,My 1982 C27 also has cabin top traveller, and it is easy to singlehand as my boat is a tiller, putting me in the center of the cockpit. I do have problems with the original stops and the lack of controllines to trim car on the curved track. It seems like you can get a good straight track and control equipment from Garhauer. It is a little pricey, but would be nice. There may be a slight penalty in pointing up with mid-boom rather than end boom sheeting, but it does make for an uncluttered cockpit for you and others aboard.Good luck

Don't do it.

Check the archives, there are several postings on this topic. In my opinion it would be a waste of time and money to switch to cabin top. End-of-boom, like you have is quicker, more accessible and makes for better sailing with less effort.
