Can any S2 9.2c owner tell me what seems to appear as a built in vent on my interior cabin ceiling is actually for? There is one on both the starboard and port side of the boat just aft of the forward bulkhead. When I look up into what appears to be a vent it seems to go no where - blocked off by the cabin ceiling. I have noted these same vents on pictures of like boats.

Can anyone tell me what they are for???????????

Cowl Vent?????????????

Dorade box of some sort????????

I am not familiar with the S2 9.2C, but suggest that the what you are looking at are access ports for uninstalled deck hardware. Duke

Those ARE dorade vent (boxes) and pretty good ones at that. They are also on my 8.5 and it takes quite a lot to get water past them, but they do wonders at keeping things fresh inside!

These are not access panels - they appear to be vents that don't go anywhere. I was wondering if perhaps they were for optional vents. If they were for a dorade I see no evidence of any type of drain system for water infutration and there is no protrusion on the top side indicating that they were for vents. Curious?

I took a fresh look at the two vents from within the cabin and upon further inspection it does apear to look like they are designed to be some sort of dorade however there is no evidence of a dorade from the top side. Were these consided optional and if so could the dorade be made operational by cutting into the box from the top side? If so the only other question would be how does the dorade drain? If you have a similar set up on your 8.5 I sure would love to see a picture to help me understand how I could activate these vents. They would be of great benefit down here in Florida.

You hit the nail on the head -- they were an option for cowl vents. My 27 has them, my buddy's 27 does not. Before you cut/drill -- depending on where yours are located, on my 27 they tend to snag the sheets when I tack, generally at the worst time. I don't even have mine in any more, I rely on a solar vent for my ventilation.
