Roger-I had no idea what that drawing was until I saw int he wood forum you called it an edge detail. The last couter top I built I did something similar, I put a 45 degree angle on it instead of the 1/4 round like in the picture. I was going to do it with the edge wood on the substrate adn then laminate everything and trim it off, but I want to be able to dissasemble this and replace the laminate. I am not sure about the granite formica. I may want to change it to white?? I don't know, I have to get it in the boat. I did the counter top for the sink in my boat in this granite formica.
Anyway I added the wood edge after I trimmed the formica. (as seen in the pic)

My table does have fiddles (those are tall edges right). but only when it's closed. Because I want to leave my laptop there. But you are right when eating I prefer a flat top table.

Changing my table I forfeit the berth in the main salon but we like the Vberth for sleeping anyway.

I need more detail as to what side of what piece will show with the table closed.
This is what it will look like closed. The fiddles on the top will be flipped over and on the bottom when the full table is out. But all sides have laminate on them.
(there's a piece of trim missing)

Then the hinges will be concealed on the underside when the table is open?

The hinges are conceled when the table is closed. When it is open, the hinges are on top of the table opened up.

Hermit, find a butler's table and study that. A butler's table is rectangular and has four narrow hinged sides with hand holds that fold up to make a tray like system. Often used as a coffee table.

Hermit, Two other thing , for the leaf to fold over the hinge knuckle has to be up. and a gate leg arrangement is convienent. Use a router of morticing the hinge.

I want the table top to fold over just like a butler table's leaf, but I need more support than a butler table leaf has because my table leaf extends out 20". Butler's table leafs only extend out 6" or so.
I want the hinges to be exactly like on the butler table. They are somehow recessed into the face of the table so they are flush when the table leaf's are opened up. I could trial and error until I build a jig for the router, I was hoping there was an easier way to inlay something though.
