What type of varnish should be used on cabin soles and companion way steps?

Two years ago I made new steps for my Catalina 27 and refinished the bilge cover (teak and Hole veneer) with WaterLox Gym floor finish. Tough stuff. I refinished my dinning room floor about 20 years ago with the stuff and it still looks good. Yes, there are now some area of wear on the most heavy traffic paths but even there it still looks very good considering. I put about 3 coats on the steps and bilge cover. After 2 years it still looks like the same as the day I finished them.

Holy Shimoly Batman, it is over $110.00 combined for a quart of the base coat and a quart of the finish coat. For that price this stuff must be amazing.

On the steps, I'd use a spar varnish with non skid grit sprinkled on between coats.

on thee sole itself, I'd oil

Once had a highly varnished sole- popped down to check a chart, with wet feet and found myself flat on my back ,staring at the overhead, while the boat merrily sailed along under autopilot.

Next day I stripped the varnish and oiled the sole.
