The cabin sole of my 1988 O'Day 302 needs to be refinished. A couple of the panels obviously unscrew. But there's no way to see how the other panels are attached. Has anyone removed the sole from an O'Day? Is there some sort of clip or fastener holding it down? Are the panels glued down? I'd hoped to take up the panels this fall and refinish the sole at home this winter. Thanks in advance to those of you who can help with the mystery.

usually the sole is built into the hull
the panels that are screwed in are access panels for keel or bilge if you try to remove them you'll probably destroy them. i would litely sand them and oil them in place. heres a pic of the sole of my santana 27 i'm replacing the warped plywood with bamboo stained to look like teak. check my web site for more of the story

Replacement is a BIG job!
I replaced the cabin sole in my 1988 35' O'day this spring. One panel was screwed down, a few simply lifted out and the rest were glued solid. My wife and I had to chisel them out which was a nasty job. The glue used by the factory really holds and you'll end up with a layer of plywood still stuck to the fiberglass floor. That will probably need sanding. Be careful to not get to aggressive and dig into the floor itself when chipping at it as that will have to be repaired (I did it!). If you're good, the panels will come out in one piece to be used as a template for the new pieces. It's a ton of work but the end result is well worth it. Good Luck B KRAZY Gregg
