I have searched the archives and can find no information on this subject, so here goes. Does anyone have the names for any reliable vendors that sell mattresses for sailboat cabins? I love my boat, and I love sleeping on it, but I am getting too old to be sleeping on just a foam pad. If anyone has any places that I can contact, it would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks

Where to buy

My friends have a 40' sport fisherman. They recently had the Original Matress Factory make a new matress for thier v-berth The company has stores located all across the Southeast and will apparently custom make a matress to your specifications.

RE: memory foam

I would get Serta because of the higher quality level. See the link enclosed. http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=CATLIST&PRO_SUB_CAT=240&PRO_SSUB_CAT=2795&cid=61372&kid=2000027928&fp=f

Here,

Look no further, they sell nice, custom made mattress pads right here. I bought one last year and have been very happy with it. Check out the chandlery {I think there on sale!!} Jack

Tufted Topper

Hi Tom - We ordered a Tufted Topper from this site (see related link below) for our stateroom. It is basically a custom fit soft cover that goes over your existing cushions. Less money than a custom mattress but we find it very comfortable and less bulky. It might be a good alternative for you. Happy holidays, Trevor

Air Mattress

The PO for our boat added a air mattress, not the simple blow up kind that is nothing more than an inner tube, but closer to the sleep number kind. Once inflated it doesn't leak air so it stays firm or soft, whichever you prefer. it has the two seperate controls to adjust either side. have to admit it is real comfortable and when I need to get under the bed, simply deflate, lot less weight to push around.

Did you get the Serta? It is 4 instead of 3 oz foam. I think it is the better buy.

Highly recommend Latex

Tom: I would highly recommend a latex mattress. If you have good upholstery it is just a matter of having the latex cut to match the old foam. Do NOT confuse Latex with foam. It is a natural product and does not mildew. You can get it in different densities (like foam) but it give excellent support and it is not outragously priced either. I had my rear berth redone with Latex with a cover for about $550. This berth is equivialant of a double bed. We had the company cut the sculptured pieces off the old cushions and they were used so we ended up with a perfect fit. We have a Tempurpedic mattress at home and think that they sleep about the same. I like a firm mattress.

If You Select Froli...

...then try to get others involved. Last year they spoke to our club's Commodore and offered a 10% discount to any member who purchased the system.

frolio works very well, good service too!

We ordered the Froli system for the vberth on our Sabre 38...WHAT A DIFFERENCE it is the best. Not only is it comfortable, it allows air to circulate and was simple to install. We use the Froli as the base, vberth cushions (about 4 inches) with a 2" mattress topper on that. Great service, and works as advertised. Much cheaper than a "mattress" that starts in $1300 range and goes up, according to several quotes we received. dave

Handcraft Mattress Company

I replaced the old foam pad in the Vee-berth on my Catalina 38 with a custom fitted mattress from HCM. They came out to the boat and made templates that took into account the complex shapes of the space. In a few weeks a mattress arrived. It fits perfect. The mattress folds in half lengthwise with an invisible hinge that I cannot feel. This mattress cost about $700 including the shipping and was worth every penny! The construction is excellent. I highly recommend the product.

Froli is the best thing we ever purchased in the way of adding additional comfort to our boat. So much in fact that we became authorized distributors for Froli. Visit our website www.comfortmarineandrv.com to learn more.

Mattress

We live on our Beneteau 36 3-4 mo. a year. We had a 321 that we bought a custom mattress for. This time at a fraction of the cost, we put 11/2 inch memory foam on top of the foam already in the boat. It is as comfortable or more comfortable than the custom one.
