I'd like to clean the plastic lens of the lights on the ceiling in the cabin of the Hunter 31. I have no idea how to take them apart to get those little bugs out. Any suggestions? I don't see anything that snaps off or turns to release the lens from the ring. -Regards, Michael O'Mara CBS 19 News Cleveland, OH 44114

Are these the type that twist to turn on?

The ones on my 1981 H30 just pop off with a little bit of prying.

Just replaced many of mine.

Michael: I just replace several of mine in the last couple of weeks. West Marine had them on sail for about $12-13 each. They are halogen and really produce a lot more light. To answer your question, just pull down on the outside and the lens will just come off.

Gentle pry

On my 28.5 and now on my 34, they just popped off after a gentle pry evenly with both hands. Just clean them with dishwahing soap and lukewarm water and it should do the trick.

What Steve Said!

I also replaced my cabin lights, with some beautiful brass ones from Vetus. I got tired of having them not come on when I twisted them on, and then they would come on when I didn't touch them. New ones are toggle switched, and really make the cabin look warm. Also splurged on two new reading lights in the v-berth. Mine are not halogen, but are more than bright enough. The old ones are easy to clean. I still have my old ones if anyone wants them. Email me at shambie@pyrategirl.com Shambie 1984 H31 Huntress www.pyrategirl.com
