Just bought 1984 fixed fin keel and cabin leaks. My guess is along the cabin entrance where the three boards slide down. I need help trouble shooting to find the water source. Appears to have had recently aquired water damage on board over the battery compartment. Previous owner has had boat in water over past two years yet did not use the boat. Any tips on fixing this situation? Dominic

crib board leaks

I experience the same water leaks with my Catalina 22 through the crib boards when she is hauled and does not point into the wind as she does on her mooring. Basically, the wind blows rain up against and around the cabin entry area and water gets in. However, when she points into the wind, the rain does not enter. Also, make sure your boat is well balasted to compensate for a heavy outboard by making sure she runs even along the water line. Another area rain gets into is the foward facing cowling for the fuel tank area. Here, it gets in when the boat is on her mooring as this cowling faces into the wind.

Cover

If it is a rain leak thru the hatch area, you can easily cover the upper cabin and hatch area with a light weight tarp while you are not using the craft. Mine secures to the stanchions near the forward shrouds, the mast, the stanchions near rear of cabin, and the two winches. I do that mainly to keep sun off the woodwork, but it also keeps out the rain should it ever come to the drought-stricken West.
