My MH40 does not have any cabin fans installed. I am looking for recommended places to mount them. Does anybody have recommendations? I am thinking 2 in the forward cabin, perhaps 3 in the main cabin, and 2 in the aft cabin. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Both the bow and stern berths had two swivel lights. I removed one in each cabin and replaced with fans. The main cabin had four swivel lights, I removed two from opposite corners and replaced those with fans as well. Don't miss the light (all my bulbs are LEDs) and it seems like enough fans for me.

You don't need to replace lights. Just tie your power in behind the lights to the power source for the lights.

Go with portable battery powered units. 2 D cells last about a week of nightly use. You can position them to blow on individual crew members anywhere you they set up shop

Sorry, but that sounds totally environmentally unfriendly when there are so many other viable options.

Like sailgunner said, just tie in to the DC system at the light. I did this on my legend 37.5 in the v berth, galley, main cabin, and aft cabin. I used Caraframo fans. I got the ones that come with both the suction cup mount and the fixed. I have a suction mounted fan in each area. At anchor, with the hatch open, I suction cup the fan to the open hatch to blow down the air. I do the same with the others to help direct outside air in by suction cup attachment to the open portholes especially in the aft cabin. All together, I have 8 caraframo fans. It is. 5 amps for each fan i turn on. I used the caraframo fans because I felt they moved th most air. Full disclosure: they are not quiet, though. I prefer the noise to sleeping in a pool of my own sweat, however.

My dealer did that for my new boat. Makes me wonder about that small size wire feeding all the lamps AND 4 fans. Be sure to have a fan you can point at the cook in the galley!

We have one 12 volt cabin fan in V-Berth, and two in the main salon...they supplement the 12,000 BTU
Mermaid AC on board...esp. in the V-berth...all are 12 volt.. I can deal with a warm day in Kansas but
warm nights at the slip are another matter...should anchor more often.

hello all

I measured all my hatches, and found fans about the same size... they were D battery fans, so I rewired them with a wire and USB plug (12v).... then built a frame hanger and hung them in the open hatches pointing down into the cabins.... for the plug I mounted a USB port in each cabin... this way each guest has a port to charge cell phones and run the fans when needed... the fans are removeable or can be left in place at the closed hatches for easy storage.... in the main cabin and in the Captains cabin we have portholes, and I have fans that attach there to either blow air in or out as desired... they are also set up with the USB ports... all the USB ports are double ports and perminant mounts.... I got them on E-bay from china for about $4 each.... there are 1 fan in the V-berth, 1 fan each port and starboard berths, 2 fans in Cpatians cabin, and 3 fans in the main cabin (galley, settee, nav/capt's desk)...

this is a good arrangement for my boat, and keeps air moving through out the boat....

sincerely
Jess
