Cabin Facing

Hi Dry Dock Sailors (it is this time of year)My gel coat facing description may have been more confusing than I intended. The boat, a catalina 27, seemed to have an indentation in the cabin facing. I stepped on the area above it but could not feel any softness or deformation of the deck. My question is how is the facing mounted to the deck of the boat and more importantly is it stuctural? (its a 1979) I hope this explains my problem a little better. Thanks Justus

It seems you may be describing a void in the layup of the fiberglass, a factory error, although I would have thought a PO would have fixed such a thing. Is it in the joint at the base of the cabin where it attaches to the side deck? This is a very common place for voids to occur.
