Cabin Cushion

Recently removed the covers to our cabin cushions to have them dry cleaned. Found there was a very thin sheet of plastic between the foam and the fabric cover. Does this plastic sheet serve a purpose? Moisture barrier maybe? Just wondering if it is necessary to replace.
Thanks!

Although I haven't gotten to the cushions yet, from reading on the Sailrite web site about sewing canvas I've seen it used as a slippery film that allows you to more easily slide the sticky foam cushions into the rough fabrics by reducing friction.

It might also reduce the need to replace the foam in event of a liquid spill. Something as simple as a beer or pickle juice would stink if it soaked into the foam. The cover you can clean, foam is more problematic.

Just finished putting the covers back on the cushions! The plastic wrap/sheet definitely helps sliding the foam into the corners of the cover. Particularly helps with padded side of the foam cushion as it hangs on the fabric cover. Thanks for the replies!
