I recently purchased a used (1980) Catalina 30. It has evidence of at one time having a carpet kit in the cabin floor (snaps in various locations). Does anybody know where I might find a source for new carpeting?

Robert there are a couple of places to look depending on what you want to do. Carpet on the cabin sole can add to moisture and mildew. However if you want to put carpet down I would look at any auto re-upholstery store. They will have a lot of choices and probably will even cut it for you. Good Luck

Carpet

Go to Lowes/Home Depot...they carry indoor/outdoor carpet that will hold up much better in a marine environment than regular carpet. Not the plastic stuff, the carpet...probably meant for patios. If you have blue winch covers and sail covers, it will be a close match.

we bought our boat in the fall and have not sailed ther yet. she is hull number 5961 - a 91 - and she came with new carpeting. we have heard so much negative about carpet that we have started to investigate alternatives but, lenore of catalina says to make sure to take the carpet up when you finish cruising and make sure the bilge is DRY and the carpet should last a long time. on the other hand, we are considering dri-dek, though it's not cheap.

We made a heavy paper

pattern, bought a high quality berber style standard home type carpet. We then had the carpet dealer cut the carpet to the pattern, and bind the edges. We are using the carpet for the 5th season, no signs of any damage. With bound edges, the carpet lays flat,if your pattern is fitted properly, there will be little or no movement under foot, under way. No need for snap fasteners.
