C36 Aft Cabin Insert

Bought a C36 this spring, still figuring out how everything works. Spent a few nights aboard so fat this summer, the aft cabin is mine. Dad, the Captain, gets the Vee. From what I understand the MkII has the cabin configured with the mattress port to starbord instead of fore and aft like the C36. Has anyone built (or bought) an insert (like for a vee berth) that fills some of the space between the bunk and the setee? It seems to me that it is doable but if someone has already done it I don't want to reinvent the wheel. By the way we absolutely love the boat. It has a modified wing keel, standard rig and sails like a dream. Thanks, Steve

Standard on C36

Every C36 that I have ever seen (I own #456) has had the bridge piece between the aft bed and setee. The piece fits between the two and rests on wood rails that you may already have on your boat. Sounds like your center piece was removed or lost. Should be very easy to build one. If you go to yachtworld.com and look at the C36s for sale you will see many aft cabin pictures showing the center-bridge piece.

Thanks

Mark, That would explain why there were no threads in the forum regarding this! I appreciate your reply, thank you. Off to the lake for an afternoon of sailing. Steve

Standard 0n 1984 (Hull 232)?

I printed out some interior photos from some C36's listed for sale and compared them with my boat today. 2 differences in the aft cabin. First, I have only one opening port, not two. There is not a port under the starboard cockpit seat. Second, there are no rails for an insert. I wonder if the insert was a feature added to the '85's. Steve

Check their website for 800 number. You may be right about that. Still a very easy mod with some teak strips for rails and the services of a cushion maker.
