Catalina 34 or Catalina 36 Owners I'm in the processing of rebedding the chain plates on my Catalina 34. I've already done the forward's and aft's. I'd like to verify that it's OK to remove the uppers while the mast is still stepped. I'm Appling West Systems to the exposed wood, etc. so I need to disconnect the shroud / turn buckle and remove the entire chain plate. PS: The mast is keel stepped. Thanks, Dave

yes

Yes you can remove the upper chain plate I would just tie the upper shrouds to the genny track and snug it down with some rope to be safe. I take the shrouds off all the time but would not leave it off if i was not on board .John

No need to tie anything off

You'll be fine with doing one at a time. Suggest you visit the C34 website. http://www.c34.org Also try this from the Forum Message Board: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php?topic=3224.0 If you own a C34 you would be well advised to use the great material there for your use, and please join the C34 International Association

C34 Chain Plates

Stu, thanks for the links. I'm actually a Catalina 34 Association Member. I have been for 8 years. Unfortunately, I've miss place my my password for the site (to many user id's and passwords to keep track of). When you mention doing one at a time, did you mean forwards, uppers, afts or one shroud at a time? Thanks again for your input. Dave 1990 C34 #988
