C30 mast step drain and access port

I have been trying to figure out how the mast drains. Mine dose not have any drains in the step too. A few inches above the step my mast has an access port that is about 4 to 5" in diameter that has a bunch of screws holding it on. I was going to inspect inside to see if there is any water. Anybody else have this?

Mast just sits on deck plate/fitting. There is no seal or lip at bottom so any water that got in would simply drain out.

Mine is a 1982 and also has no drains My rigger told me to drill two holes on opposite sides ofvthe mast about one inch up Did this three years ago and all is fine.My mast does not have a plate like previously shown

If you have internal halyards in the mast the water would drain where the blocks are located near the bottom of the mast. I would not have much room below those blocks where I could drill additional drain holes.

yours is like that because the top of your mast is sealed ours are not as the halyards runout the top
