Why???

why would you want to convert to a hydraulic system. I've only used one once, but I remember it having no feedback and being difficult to keep the boat in the groove. The previous owner of my 30 converted from tiller to wheel and said it was not that difficult. he got lots of help from Edson, from parts to advice to instructions. think this one over long and hard!!

Hydraulic Gives a Strange Feeling

I had a hydraulic wheel in the pilothouse of a Nimble 25 Arctic Pilothouse Sloop with a rudder in the cockpit. I agree with Tom that you should consider if you want to try to sail with Zero Feedback. I mostly motored with the wheel, but it is such a detached feeling that I wouldn't want to do any serious sailing with it. Stan "Christy Leigh" c320 #656

No feeling

It is nice to "feel" the helm. Your boat can tell you a lot about the sail trim just by feel. I have had a tiller and a wheel. Tiller has the most feedback, then a wheel with cables, hydralic feedback. I don't recommend that. At least not on a 30 footer. But hey, "we are all different, and if that is what raises the your spar, go for it!"
