I have 1982 c30 with 11 hp 5411. the hurth transmission has a fluid dipstick that appears to have two marks on it. there is a definite mark near the bottom and a puzzeling mark near the middle of the stick. i found in the archives that the bottom mark is the level to use. i am looking for confirmation that the bottom mark is the one i should be using.....the manual isn't specific enough. thanks in advance.

Yes, use the bottom mark

It always amazes people when they think: "Wow, that's hardly any fluid at all." It isn't much, but that's the mark. ALSO, very important: check the level with the stick just resting on top of the housing -- do not screw the stick in to check the level.

Tom, what manual are you referring to?

The engine manual says little about it, and is written and published by a completely different company than the transmission vendor.

Do you check it cold!!

Great info. and thank you. One question though..........Do you check the fluid level with the engine turned off and cold? Or like an automotive transmission with the engine running and warmed up? Could it be the higher mark on the stick is for expansion of the fluid when warm or hot? Bob Universal M-18
