Has anyone replaced the 130 Genoa on a C30 with a 150? I am looking for more perfomance. If anyone has, your experiences would be appreciated

No, but...

Doug It's a trade-off between improved light air performance and Genoa efficiency when reefed in for heavier air. So the decision should be based upon the type of sailing you do. Rule-of-thumb is that efficient reefed sail shape can be preserved only down to about 80% of the full size. Thus a 130% Genoa can efficiently reef down to around your "J" dimension (102%), but a 150% will efficiently reef to only down about a 120%, a little less than your present Genoa. Certainly, in heavy weather you can reef it down further -- but you won't be able to point as high or get as much drive from the sail. Modern Genoa roller-reefing technology has foam luff inserts, etc. that help maintain sail shape, but they only buy you a little extra reefing percentage range. --Ron

I have.

I have a 150 on my C-30. I only had a 100 before so I don't have a direct comparison to the 130, BUT...we have average winds around 10 knots here in the Boston area and that 150 is a great performer. I went with a Quicksilver II Genoa from Doyle sails. It has foam at the luff & that sail will keep its shape until it's furled to as small as 115, and I've used it as a 100 in a real big blow (35+) with a reefed main. When it's reefed to 100 it doesn't have the best shape (you can't point with it) but it's still useful when on a reach. I'd recommend going to a 150 as long as it has the foam. You'll get great light air performance and it'll reef almost as small as what you've currently got. By having that 150 I've spent a lot less time motoring and a lot more time sailing. You can't beat that in my book! Allen Schweitzer s/v Drambuie C-30 hull# 632

We just added a 150 with a furler to our C30

We sail on Lake Ontario and our summer breezes can be very light - in the 5-10 kt range. The 150 still makes a light air day fun. We can roll her up when the winds pick up to something smaller and still keep the boat on her feet.
