I recently replaced all of the pipes and fittings on the exhaust system of my 1976 C27. The old system rusted through. The original pipes were covered with an asbestos-type cloth tape which I can not find locally. Does anyone know what I can use to re-wrap the exhaust system and where I can get it? The engine compartment seems to get hotter without the insulation.

Exhaust Wrap

Hi, I did the same thing this year. Don't use asbestos for the wrap, use a fiberglass wrap from your local high performance speed shop or hot rod shop. They call it header wrap. I paid $2 a foot and I think I used 30 feet. Use those stainless steel pipe bands to hold it in place(for $2 a foot the shop should give them to you). Also, run your engine 5 minutes- let it cool, 10 minutes - let it cool etc. to burn off the smell you innitally get from the wrap. Don't worry the smell will go away after a few times out. Good sailing!
